My Approach

The foundation for all of my work with clients is trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirming, sex-positive, anti-racist care. Some clients also find it helpful to know that I am a queer therapist with experience in and empathy for the community. From there, I use one of four approaches, depending on what you need.

The first is supportive therapy for individuals and loved ones who are looking for a therapist to walk with them while they explore their gender or sexual/romantic identity and navigate “coming out” or “transitioning.”

For clients ready for in-depth insight-oriented work, I utilize (Brief) Psychodynamic/Attachment-Focused Psychotherapy. This rich and unstructured approach uses relationships and past experiences to explore the client’s inner psyche, current relationships, and repeated patterns. This approach uses the therapeutic relationship we develop as a strong source of guidance and healing.

The third approach I use is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) - informed treatment. I use DBT with clients who want to alter problematic behavioral patterns. I often integrate DBT-informed care and Attachment-Focused Therapy when working with clients with a history of religious or interpersonal trauma.

Finally, for clients wanting to target and clear the harmful effects of trauma, I use Hypnotherapy along with other trauma-informed interventions. We can discuss these options and what the appropriate approach would be specifically for you when we meet.

My beliefs about therapy

I believe that therapy is a cooperative, mutual experience that changes all involved. I have a welcoming and empathetic approach that helps clients feel comfortable with the therapeutic process.

In addition to working with LGBTQ+ and emotionally sensitive people, I also have a passion for working with those with a history of abuse, including sexual abuse and spiritual/religious abuse. Going through the effects that trauma has had on you is integral to all of our work together.

Sometimes my approach utilizes a lot of structure and skills to help get you through a painful situation. In other sessions, we might spend time exploring insights together as we examine core emotional experiences. My aim is to personalize my approach to you in an effort to provide what you need from our time together.
